The second annual Coffee Cup Revolution organized by Tides Canada’s Binners’ Project brought attention to the significant amount of coffee cup waste in Vancouver and highlighted the capacity of the city’s binners as recyclers.

Earlier this summer, Steve Ellis, Tides Canada’s Program Lead, Northern Canada, travelled to Baffin Island, Nunavut, to connect with some of our partners. Also joining Steve were colleagues from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, The Oak Foundation, and Oceans North Canada. The group travelled to the communities of Clyde River and Pond Inlet.
Return to the roots: Cultivating success in northern Manitoba with community gardens and more
Across northern Manitoba, neighbourhood gardens, apiaries, chicken coops, and greenhouses have sprung up, tended to by proud community members who are leading initiatives to respond to food security and community economic development challenges in the region. These initiatives are part of 13 projects funded in the past year by the Northern Manitoba Food, Culture, and Community Fund.
Building knowledge, sense of belonging, through the Koeye River fish weir
We highlight an initiative that seeks to deepen our understanding of the Koeye River—an important watershed on the central BC coast—and the resources that it supports. The Qqs Projects Society’s salmon program is run in collaboration with the Heiltsuk Integrated Resource Management Society and supported by Tides Canada.
