Tides Canada welcomes first project in the Yukon: Our Voices

From traveling across northern Canada in 2011 to meet and learn from communities, to welcoming Stephen Ellis as our first Northern Program Lead and opening our first Yellowknife office in 2013, Tides Canada has been steadily growing our support of Northern solutions for Northern challenges. We are proud to announce and welcome Our Voices to our shared platform—Tides Canada’s very first project from the Yukon.

New NWT collaborative fund supports on the land initiatives

Our new NWT On The Land Collaborative Fund is now open for applications from communities and organizations in the Northwest Territories (NWT) with great ideas for on the land programming.

The collaborative seeks to promote and support on the land initiatives in the NWT by providing easier access to funding and other resources.

A new shared home in Yellowknife

Tides Canada recently hosted an Open House at our new downtown Yellowknife office. More than 60 visitors came by to see the new space where our Northern Canada program lead, Steve Ellis, is stationed along with some new officemates—three projects on the shared platform, Dene Nahjo, Northern Youth Leadership, and Arctic Funders Collaborative.

Earlier this summer, Steve Ellis, Tides Canada’s Program Lead, Northern Canada, travelled to Baffin Island, Nunavut, to connect with some of our partners. Also joining Steve were colleagues from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, The Oak Foundation, and Oceans North Canada. The group travelled to the communities of Clyde River and Pond Inlet.

Frame Lake Rehabilitation Project receives RBC Blue Water Fund support

With the Frame Lake Rehabilitation Project, Tides Canada, in collaboration with the Government of the Northwest Territories’ Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Carleton University, hopes to restore Frame Lake to a healthy aquatic ecosystem that can once again support fish, recreational activity, and tourism.
