At summerlunch+ our vision is to close the achievement gap through nutritious lunches and engaging food literacy programming over the summer months. Through hands-on experiences growing, preparing, and eating nutritious food, we teach children the value of a healthy meal, and how to integrate that knowledge at home.
Collaborative effort from community stakeholders is a core value and underpins the success of summerlunch+. As the summerlunch+ model evolved in 2016, not only did we serve almost 10,000 meals, but we also addressed issues of youth employment, food literacy, and food access by building connections to parents and families.
Our goal for the future is to feed more children and youth, and address the widening achievement gap, while also addressing issues of food security in our partner communities.
