Over 20 years ago, a small group of changemakers and philanthropists asked: how can we foster a healthy planet and a just society? They created MakeWay (formerly Tides Canada) a national charity that provides innovative supports for environmental and social change initiatives across the country.

Today, MakeWay is made up of two entities – MakeWay Foundation and MakeWay Charitable Society (also known as the Shared Platform). Over 80 staff members work on the Foundation team, and over 200 work across a diversity of projects on the Shared Platform.

MakeWay Foundation is a charity and public foundation with a goal to enable nature and communities to thrive together. We do this by building partnerships, providing solutions, grants, and services for the charitable sector across the country.

MakeWay Charitable Society

MakeWay Charitable Society, also known as the Shared Platform, is an operating charity that houses over 50 unique social change projects ranging from neighbourhood-scale initiatives to national conservation efforts. The Shared Platform provides a suite of centralized operational supports and charitable expertise so that projects can focus on program delivery.
