Gaagige Zaagibigaa (GZ) is an Indigenous, grassroots led organization working to support Indigenous Sovereignty across Northern Ontario, Canada through food system transformation work. This is done through lasting reciprocal relationships with community partners, funding interventions across the breadth of community life, and wrap-around supports that help solidify and reinforce community efforts. GZ recognizes food sovereignty work and food system transformation efforts as vehicles for and accelerators of Indigenous Sovereignty, resilience and wellness.
We work towards self-determined Anishinaabewi wellness and relationships through food. We strive to strengthen sovereignty in our communities through long-term, reliable funding and other supports for Anishinaabewi people, households, communities and other initiatives and projects. We are committed to walking the walk of decolonization by centering accountability to Anishinaabewi knowing and being.
The breadth of projects that we are currently supporting and striving to support include food sovereignty and security (community and household level), land protection and rehabilitation, cultural reclamation, youth kinship, knowledge sharing and building, sustainable community economic development, decolonization of systems, health and wellness and community building.
