The Dasiqox Tribal Park Initiative advances and implements the Xeni Gwet’in and Yuneŝit’in community vision for Dasiqox Tribal Park, a proposed land, water, and wildlife management area located in traditional Tŝilhqot’in territory, located about 125 kilometres southwest of Williams Lake, BC. The area includes about 300,000 hectares of wilderness and wildlife habitat, and borders a number of existing parks and protected areas. It is an expression of Indigenous governance initiated by the Tŝilhqot’in communities of Xeni Gwet’in and Yuneŝit’in, and is also called Nexwagwezʔan — meaning ‘there for us’ in the Tŝilhqot’in language.
The Tribal Park presents an alternative vision for the management and governance of the land in this area, that reflects the values of the local people who live from the land. It includes environmental protection, creating sustainable livelihoods and upholding the land as a place where Tŝilhqot’in language and culture can thrive.
