Reel Youth empowers youth in communities with social and economic challenges to produce and distribute films about the issues most important to them. Through photography, video, music video, stop-motion animation, claymation, and inter-generational programs, Reel Youth teaches marginalized youth to engage their community, gain leadership skills, tell their stories, and speak up about their visions for a more just and sustainable world.
Over the past nine years, Reel Youth has produced over 1,000 films with 4,000 people in BC, Alberta, Yukon Territory, and the Northwest Territories. All programs are customized to meet the specific needs and desires of each community.
Programs are often followed by the Reel Youth Film Festival, a celebration of short films made by youth 19 years and under. Insightful and entertaining, the touring festival collects films from across Canada, and around the world, for an engaging program of some of the best youth filmmaking today.
