Philanthropy and charity have done considerable good over the decades, but recently this system has been facing scrutiny of its inherent inequalities and contradictions in priveleging the few. We are mindful that MakeWay participates in the very systems we want to challenge and will work from within to better serve nature and communities by creating more equitable spaces for philanthropy. By changing processes and advancing policy change, and by removing barriers that keep communities from accessing supports, we can help build new forms of philanthropy rooted in reciprocity.

We work with partners to:

Amplify collaborative models to inspire philanthropic practices that shift power and enable trust-based giving.
Increase the annual grantmaking and community decision-making of our Community and Donor Advised Funds.
Scope and co-create more shared platforms across the country to increase equitable access to the charitable sector.
Advance public policy and research to build a more equitable and transparent charitable sector.
